BMW 188L Plate-Type LSD

Our Plate type LSDs (Limited Slip Differentials) are crafted from "FORGED" Nickel Chromoly steel and undergo special heat treatments such as Super Sub-Zero or Cryogenic treatment. Additionally, they are subjected to processes like shot peening and WPC to bolster core and surface strength, increase wear resistance, and extend service life. The high strength material, along with the processes and treatments used, not only minimize friction and enhance fatigue strength, but also contribute to significantly reduced overall weight and internal lubrication improvement, through the use of large windows and multi holes. As a result, our LSDs offer prolonged durability(in average, they don´t require any service during the first 5.000km of special stages) and improved and stable performance.

Technical specifications: 

This plated LSD features an upgraded friction-plate design and enlarged internal components to handle the high engine torque typical of heavily turbocharged engines used in drag and drift applications.

It incorporates 20 friction plates with special oiling grooves for improved lubrication and an ultra-lightweight construction, following our commitment that “in motorsport, every gram counts”, with a total weight of only 6.12 kg. These features contribute to improved traction and consistent performance, maintaining a stable preload value over long periods, even in endurance racing.

As with all our plated LSDs, this model uses a dual-ramp body. Our factory-spec setup for this application is 35/67.5 & 35/90. Other ramp options (35/35 & 35/67.5) are available upon request.

We include, free of charge, two additional thicker Belleville (conical) washers, each providing approximately +25 Nm of additional preload.
These are intended for users who wish to experiment with higher preload settings.

As a proof of our quality and reliability, we offer 1 year of “motorsport warranty” upon material or manufacturing defects in our full range of Plate type LSDs.

Important Reminder:

We recommend using gear oils with shockproof additives or friction modifiers, commonly labeled as "LS" (Limited Slip) gear oils, specifically for plate-type LSDs.

The most common SAE grade is 75W-140 LS and only with LS specifications if a plate-type LSD is installed.

It is also advisable to add gear oil directly to the LSD during installation into the gearbox. Please note that although we apply anti-rust oil during assembly at our factory, it does not provide lubrication.
