-
Which oil should I use with the TORSEN Limited Slip Diff?
We recommend using OE or fully synthetic gear oil with NO shockproof additives or friction modifiers, known as “LS” gear oils which are exclusive for plate type LSDs.
-
Which oil should I use with the PLATE/CLUTCH Limited Slip Diff?
For more performance with PLATE/CLUTCH Limited Slip Diff we recommend gear oil with Shockproof additives or friction modifiers, known as “LS” gear oils. And never with the TORSEN LSDs.

Is it OK to pour some oil into the lock-up when fitting it to the gearbox?
Yes! Do it! Our self-locking units, like all parts, are oiled, it is the oil that protects the parts from rust during the whole storage time, that's why it's good to pour the transmission oil into the self-locking unit before mounting it.
-
What is the clutch pressure plate bolt torque?
We manufacture M8x1.25 bolts with a hardness of 12.9 and for the 140 mm and 184 mm presses the torque is 40 Nm.

LSD bedding/running-in procedure
For plate-type LSDs we recommend a short bedding-in process after installation. The purpose is to allow the friction plates to seat properly and to stabilize the preload value.
- Drive the car for around 20–30 km at medium pace, including some corners in both directions, applying light to moderate throttle so that the LSD works progressively.
- Avoid aggressive launches or heavy braking during this period.
- After the first session, replace the differential oil to remove any metallic particles generated during the bedding-in process.
This will ensure optimum performance and durability of the LSD.
Note: It is highly recommended to record the preload value before and after every race, always under cold conditions (i.e., before warming up the engine and gearbox).
This will help you monitor how wear is affecting the LSD — although our LSDs offer very stable preload values over long periods.Additionally, this helps you determine which preload range best suits your driving style, as preferences can vary.
Some drivers feel more confident with higher preload values (around 100 Nm), while others prefer lower values (around 50 Nm), depending on various factors such as:- the type of racing (gravel, tarmac, snow, circuit, drift, drag, etc.),
- the vehicle configuration and specifications,
- and of course, the individual driving style.

Percentage preload setting of plate-type LSDs
We don’t work with percentage-based locking figures, as this is not an accurate representation. Instead, we work with ramp angles (for acceleration and braking), preload values, and the number of active friction plates.
Our Plate-type LSDs are fully customizable to suit each customer’s specific needs, so if you are not familiar with ramp angles, preload values and number of friction plates, just let us know the intended use for your car at the time of confirming the order and we´ll set up the LSD accordingly.
