VAG (Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda) 02J 5-Speed Gearbox – Plate type LSD | Limited-slip differential
Our plate-type LSDs (Limited Slip Differentials) are manufactured from forged Nickel–Chromoly steel and undergo special heat treatments, such as Super Sub-Zero.
Additionally, they are subjected to surface enhancement treatments like shot peening and WPC, which increase both core and surface strength, improve wear resistance, and extend service life.
The combination of high-strength materials and these advanced treatments not only minimizes friction and enhances fatigue strength, but also contributes to a significant reduction in overall weight and improved internal lubrication, thanks to the use of large windows and multiple oil-flow holes.
As a result, our LSDs deliver exceptional durability — on average, they require no servicing during the first 2,000 km of special stages — along with stable and consistent performance.
Technical specifications:
- Our plated LSDs are unique in the market for their 12-friction-plate configuration, while also being the lightest in their class at just 5.25 kg.
The result is superior traction, long-term preload stability, and reliable performance even under the extreme demands of endurance competition.
- A newly upgraded design featuring a much stronger cap ensures maximum reliability for turbocharged engines with high torque outputs, having been successfully tested in hill climb race cars exceeding 700 Nm.
- As in all our plated LSDs, we use dual ramp bodies and our factory spec version on this application is the 35/65 & 40/85. Other ramp angles available upon request.
We include “free or charge” a set of ring gear / crown wheel bolts, made of high tensile steel grade 12.9, You could tighten the bolts supplied with our LSD to 75–80 Nm. We recommend applying a high-strength threadlocker, such as Loctite 271 (red) or, for maximum security, Loctite 270/2701 (green).
To demonstrate our commitment to quality and reliability, all our plate-type LSDs come with a 1-year motorsport warranty against material or manufacturing defects.
Extras included:
- A set of 8 pcs M10x1.0 high-grade 12.9 ring gear bolts is included .
The bolts supplied with our LSD must be tightened to 80 Nm and we recommend using a high-strength threadlocker, such as Loctite 271 (red) or — for maximum security — Loctite 270/2701 (green).
- An extra, thicker Belleville (conical) washer for users seeking increased preload, typically used when adjusting the differential from tarmac to gravel configuration.

Important Reminder:
We recommend using gear oils with shockproof additives or friction modifiers, commonly labeled as "LS" (Limited Slip) gear oils, specifically for plate-type LSDs.
The most common SAE grade is 75W-140 LS and only with LS specifications if a plate-type LSD is installed.
It is also advisable to add gear oil directly to the LSD during installation into the gearbox. Please note that although we apply anti-rust oil during assembly at our factory, it does not provide lubrication.
